Stuffed Cabbage Rolls
- 1 c. rice (uncooked)
- 1 lb. hamburger
- 1/2 lb. sausage
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1 average size head cabbage, cored
- 1 can whole tomatoes or tomato soup
- 1 clove garlic (optional)
- Separate leaves of cabbage by steaming in a large pot with water covering half the cabbage.
- Brown onion and garlic.
- Mix hamburger, sausage, salt, pepper and rice until well blended.
- Add browned mixture and mix until blended.
- Take a few spoonfuls of meat mixture and put in cabbage leaves to wrap.
- Proceed until all of the meat mixture is used.
- Place any remaining cabbage leaves on the bottom of the pot in the water where the cabbage was steamed.
- Put cabbage rolls in layers on top of leaves. Pour tomatoes or soup on top.
- Heat until boiling.
- Reduce heat and simmer on low for 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
