Oatmeal Whole Wheat Bread(Makes 2 Large Loaves)

  1. Add oatmeal to water; cook for 2 minutes.
  2. Add lard, milk, molasses and salt.
  3. Cool until just warm or lukewarm.
  4. Add yeast; let stand for 5 minutes.
  5. Beat thoroughly.
  6. Add flour; mix well. Turn out on board and knead, sprinkling flour as necessary to keep it from sticking.
  7. Knead at least 10 minutes.
  8. Put in greased bowl; let rise until double.
  9. Form into loaves; put in greased pans.
  10. Let rise until double.
  11. Bake at 350u0b0 to 375u0b0 for about 40 minutes.
  12. I usually throw in a little bran and wheat germ, too, about 1/4 cup of each.
