Ham And Cheese Bake

  1. Trim off crusts and cut bread into 1 1/2-inch cubes.
  2. Place 1/2 bread cubes on bottom of lightly greased 7 x 11-inch baking dish.
  3. Cover with 1/2 cheese, then 1/2 ham.
  4. Repeat the 3 layers. Combine eggs, milk and salt.
  5. Beat well.
  6. Pour over mixture in baking dish.
  7. Drizzle melted butter over the top.
  8. Cover with foil and refrigerate 12 to 24 hours.
  9. Place in a pan (9 x 13-inch works) 3/4 full of water.
  10. Cover loosely with foil.
  11. Bake at 400u0b0 for 50 to 60 minutes.
  12. Uncover casserole last 15 minutes of baking time.
  13. Test for doneness as for custard.
  14. You can add broccoli and mushrooms if desired.
  15. This is a great casserole for holiday when serving a large breakfast crowd.
