Lasagne Italiano
- 1 lb. Italian sausage or hamburger
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1 clove of garlic, crushed
- 1 16 oz. can, whole tomatoes
- 1 15 oz. can, tomato sauce
- 2 Tbsp. dried parsley flakes
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. dried basil leaves
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 9 uncooked lasagne noodles
- 1 16 oz. carton of ricotta or creamed cottage cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan Cheese
- 1 Tbsp. dried parsley flakes
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 1/2 tsp. dried oregano leaves
- 2 cups shredded Mozzarella Cheese, about 8 oz.
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan Cheese
- Cook meat, onion and garlic in skillet til brown.
- Drain.
- Add tomatoes with liquid, tomato sauce, parsley, sugar, basil, 1/2 tsp. salt, stirring occasionally.
- Lower heat.
- Simmer uncovered til mixture thickens, about 1 hour.
- Cook noodles.
- Save 1/2 cup of sauce mixture.
- Mix Ricotta Cheese, 1/4 cup of Parmesan Cheese, 1 Tbsp. parsley, 1 1/2 tsp. salt and the oregano.
- Layer 1/3 each of the noodles, remaining sauce mix, Mozzarella Cheese and Ricotta Cheese mix in ungreased 9 X 13 X 2 pan.
- Repeat twice.
- Spoon reserved sauce mix on top, sprinkle with 1/4 cup Parmesan Cheese. Cook uncovered at 350u0b0 for 45 minutes.
- Let stand 10 minutes before serving.
- Makes up to 10 servings.
