Bannock, Another Authentic Recipe

  1. Preheat oven to 400F.
  2. Mix the first 7 ingredients.
  3. Cut in the lard'til it's well blended.
  4. Stir in the buttermilk, mix well.
  5. Add remainder of ingredients, mix well.
  6. You're looking for a firm dough that holds together well.
  7. Add flour or buttermilk to achieve this result.
  8. Divide in two, shape each half into a loaf two inches in diameter.
  9. Bake'til golden brown, 30-35 minutes.
  10. Cool, wrap in foil.
  11. Will keep a week or 10 days on the trail, unrefrigerated.
