Spicy Dark Fruitcake

  1. Mix fruits, peels, raisins and nuts.
  2. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and spices.
  3. Sprinkle 1/4 cup over fruit mixture, mixing well.
  4. Thoroughly cream shortening and sugar.
  5. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each.
  6. Add sifted dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with grape juice, beating until smooth after each addition.
  7. Pour batter over fruits and mix well.
  8. Line two 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 2 1/2-inch loaf pans with paper.
  9. Bake in slow oven at 275u0b0 for 3 to 3 1/2 hours or until done.
