Pasta with Cabbage and Ham

  1. In a large saucepan of salted boiling water, cook pasta until al dente.
  2. Reserve 1/2 cup of cooking water.
  3. Drain pasta well and set aside.
  4. While the pasta is cooking, in a heavy skillet cook the onion and cabbage in the oil over moderate heat.
  5. Cook until vegetables are golden and al dente.
  6. Add ham and seasonings and cook for about 2 minutes until cabbage is tender.
  7. Add cream and simmer until slightly thickened .
  8. Add the cabbage and ham mixture to pasta over low heat.
  9. Add enough cooking water to thin the sauce to desired consistency.
  10. Add Parmesan cheese, combine and serve with a green salad.
