Beef Pastitsio Recipe

  1. In skillet, brown grnd beef and onion; drain.
  2. Stir in tomato sauce, salt, oregano, pepper, and garlic.
  3. Cover and simmer for 15 min, Meanwhile cook macaroni, according to package directions, drain and rinse.
  4. Combine Macaroni, cheese and egg; set aside.
  5. For sauce, heat butter in a saucepan.
  6. Stir in flour; cook and stir till smooth and bubbly.
  7. Stir in lowfat milk; cook and stir 5 minutes or possibly till smooth and thick.
  8. Remove from heat and stir in salt and cheese.
  9. Spoon half the macaroni mix into a greased 9X13 pan.
  10. Cover with meat mix, top with remaining macaroni.
  11. Spread sauce over top.
  12. Bake 350, uncovered for 30 minutes, let stand 5 minutes before serving.
