Secret Toffee

  1. Preheat oven to 375u0b0.
  2. Line the inside of a 13 x 19-inch pan with a good-sized sheet of foil, going about 1-inch up the sides. Melt the butter in a small saucepan; add the brown sugar and boil rapidly until sugar melts and becomes syrupy, about 30 seconds. Pour into the foil-lined pan.
  3. Tilt pan to cover the bottom evenly.
  4. Arrange a layer of the crackers, allowing about 1/8-inch between each.
  5. Bake for 10 minutes.
  6. Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate morsels and nuts over top.
  7. Return to oven 1 minute more.
  8. Remove and spread chocolate evenly over sugar and crackers with spatula.
  9. Refrigerate for 1 hour or more, until firm.
  10. Lift from pan. Peel off foil and break into chunks.
  11. Refrigerate for storage.
  12. Makes 1 1/2 pounds of candy.
