Finnish Nisu

  1. Scald milk; add margarine, 3/4 cup sugar and salt.
  2. Cool to lukewarm.
  3. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast and 1 teaspoon sugar to warm water.
  4. Allow to set for 5 minutes or until foamy.
  5. Beat eggs; add eggs and lukewarm milk mixture to yeast.
  6. Blend well. Add 2 cups flour and ground cardamon; beat well.
  7. Gradually add remaining flour until dough is easy to handle.
  8. Knead on a floured surface until smooth and satiny.
  9. Place dough in a greased bowl, turning to grease top.
  10. Cover; let rise free from draft until doubled, about 1 hour.
