Aunt Lizzie'S Famous Stew

  1. Brown meat in hot fat.
  2. Add water, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, garlic and onion (which have been chopped), bay leaves and seasoning.
  3. Simmer for 2 hours; stir occasionally to keep from sticking.
  4. Forty-five minutes before done, add sliced carrots and quartered potatoes.
  5. Top with dumplings 15 minutes before meal time.
  6. Serves 8.
