Aunt Lizzie'S Famous Stew
- 2 lb. beef stew
- 2 Tbsp. fat
- 4 c. boiling water
- 1 tsp. lemon juice
- 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 medium onion
- 2 bay leaves
- 2 Tbsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. paprika
- dash of allspice
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 1 tsp. sugar
- carrots, potatoes and any other favorite vegetables
- Brown meat in hot fat.
- Add water, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, garlic and onion (which have been chopped), bay leaves and seasoning.
- Simmer for 2 hours; stir occasionally to keep from sticking.
- Forty-five minutes before done, add sliced carrots and quartered potatoes.
- Top with dumplings 15 minutes before meal time.
- Serves 8.
