Old Fashion Pumpkin Fruit Cake

  1. Cream the shortening with sugar until creamy.
  2. Beat in eggs, one at a time.
  3. Beat well, then beat in molasses, buttermilk and pumpkin.
  4. Sift flour with baking powder, soda and spices.
  5. Mix with dates, fruit, raisins and nuts.
  6. Stir into batter, mixing well. Turn into greased large tube cake pan.
  7. Bake at 350u0b0 for 1 hour or until cake tests done.
  8. Cool cake.
  9. A simple orange icing brings out additional flavor.
