Grandma'S Fruit Cake
- 1 lb. (4 1/2 c.) flour
- 1 tsp. cloves
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. mace
- 1 lb. butter
- 1 lb. brown sugar
- 10 eggs, well beaten
- 1 c. molasses
- 1/2 lb. candied cherries
- 1/2 lb. candied pineapple
- 1 lb. sliced dates
- 1 lb. raisins
- 1 lb. currants
- 1/2 lb. citron
- 1/2 lb. candied orange and lemon peel
- 1/2 lb. chopped walnuts
- 1 c. honey
- 1/2 c. sweet cider
- Sift the flour once; measure.
- Add baking powder and spices; sift 3 more times.
- Cream the shortening; add sugar and cream until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs, fruits, nuts, honey, molasses and cider.
- Add flour gradually.
- Put in 5 well-greased loaf pans. Bake at 250u0b0 for 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
