Orange Scented Scones

  1. Preheat oven to 450F.
  2. Combine flours, sugar, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and zest in a medium bowl.
  3. Cut in cold butter.
  4. In a small bowl, combine buttermilk, 1 egg, 1 egg yolk, and vanilla.
  5. Form a well in the dry ingredients, add wet ingredients.
  6. Combine, but do NOT overmix.
  7. Form into a 6x9" rectangle, cut in half lengthwise and thirds widthwise, cut each square in half diagonally.
  8. Place on baking sheet (preferably lined with a silicone mat or parchment).
  9. Beat remaining egg white with 1 tsp water.
  10. Brush egg wash on scones, dust with coarse sugar if desired.
  11. Bake about 12 minutes or until golden brown.
  12. Freeze leftovers immediately.
