Candy Cane Cookies

  1. Heat oven to 375u0b0.
  2. Mix shortening, sugar, egg and flavorings. Mix flour and salt; stir into shortening mixture.
  3. Divide dough in half and blend food coloring into 1/2.
  4. Roll a 4 inch strip (1 tablespoon) dough from each color in flour.
  5. Place strips side by side; press lightly together and twist like rope.
  6. Place on ungreased baking sheet.
  7. Form in shape of cane.
  8. Bake 9 minutes until lightly browned.
  9. While still warm, sprinkle with mixture of candy and sugar.
  10. Makes 4 dozen canes.
