Apple Pie In Bag
- 1/2 (10 or 11 oz.) pkg. pie crust mix
- 7 to 8 Golden Delicious apples (8 c. apples, sliced thin)
- 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1 c. sugar
- 3/4 c. flour (all-purpose)
- 1/2 c. margarine or butter
- You will need one large cooking bag (20 x 14-inch) with nylon tie.
- Prepare pie crust mix as directed for 9-inch pie crust. Line pie plate with high fluted edges.
- Peel, core and thinly slice apples.
- In large bowl, toss apples, 1/2 cup sugar, 3 tablespoons flour and cinnamon.
- Fill pie shell with mixture; pile high in center.
- In small bowl with hands, knead butter, remaining 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup flour into soft dough.
- Pull dough into small pieces; flatten each slightly and arrange on top of apple mixture.
- It is not necessary to completely cover apple mixture. Insert several wood skewers (4-inch tall)* so bag will not touch top of pie while baking.
- Preheat oven to 400u0b0.
- Place pie in bag; close with nylon tie.
- Cut 6 1/2-inch slits in top of bag.
- Place on cookie sheet.
- Set on center rack.
- Be sure bag does not touch oven sides, racks or walls.
- Bake for 1 hour or until brown. Remove from oven.
- With shears, cut bag open.
- Take out pie; bottom of pan will be greasy.
- Sit on wire rack to cool.
- Serves 8.
