Nanaimo Bars

  1. BOTTOM LAYER: In double boiler, melt butter, sugar and cocoa; add egg and cook until thickened.
  2. Add crumbs, nuts and coconut.
  3. Press into ungreased 9 inch square pan.
  4. MIDDLE LAYER: Beat together butter, cream, custard powder and sugar; spread over base.
  5. Chill.
  6. TOP LAYER: Melt chocolate with butter; cool slightly.
  7. Pour over second layer; chill.
  8. Cut into bars.
