Beef Brisket in Chinese 5 spice sauce

  1. Star anise, black pepper, coriander seeds, 5 spice powder, cinnamon sticks
  2. Take a large pot, add water, add 5 spice powder, soy sauce, salt, black pepper, cinnamon sticks, coriander seeds.
  3. Bring water to boil.
  4. Once water is boiling add the beef.
  5. Boil for 30 minutes
  6. Chop onion, add to pot.
  7. Add garlic as whole cloves.
  8. Reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour 30 minutes.
  9. Once majority of water has evaporated and you have a thick sauce in pot.
  10. This the most important part , be sure to cook off most of the liquid.
  11. Add the sugar and honey stir in well.
  12. Cook for another 10 minutes on low heat.
  13. Serve the beef and sauce with rice
