Sweet Hush Puppies

  1. In a heavy 2-quart pan, over medium heat, combine water and margarine.
  2. Bring to a boil.
  3. Blend cornmeal, sugar, salt, baking powder and green onion in large bowl.
  4. Stir boiling water mixture into cornmeal mixture until all ingredients are moist. Let mixture stand until cool enough to handle.
  5. Heat 3 inches oil to 350u0b0 or until a 1-inch bread cube turns golden brown in 65 seconds.
  6. Form dough into 2-inch ovals by rolling between palms of hands.
  7. Add 3 or 4
  8. at a time to hot oil; don't crowd.
  9. Cook, turning once.
  10. Cook about 2 minutes.
  11. Drain on paper towels. Repeat until all batter is used.
  12. Serve hot.
  13. Makes about 32 hush puppies.
