Cranberry Sangria
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 large cinnamon sticks
- 4 allspice berries
- 3 whole cloves
- 2 whole star anise
- 2 cups fresh cranberries (can use frozen)
- 2 granny smith apples, cut in large dice
- 34 cup Cointreau liqueur
- 12 cup ruby port
- 1 (750 ml) bottlefruity rose wine
- 12 cup ruby port
- 12 cup Cointreau liqueur
- 12 cup unsweetened cranberry juice
- Combine water, sugar, cinnamon, allspice, cloves and star anise in a small saucepan.
- Bring to a boil over high heat, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from heat and cool to lukewarm.
- Strain through a fine-mesh strainer into a 3-qt container with a tight-fitting lid.
- Discard solids.
- Add cranberries, apples, Cointreau and port to container.
- Seal and refrigerate at least 4 hours, or up to overnight.
- Add wine, port, Cointreau and cranberry juice to container.
- Stir well, refrigerate until cold, and serve over ice.
