Chicken In Its Own Gravy
- 3 to 3 1/2 lb. chicken
- 1/4 c. butter
- 1 1/4 c. (10 3/4 oz. can) cream of mushroom soup
- 1 c. (4 oz.) shredded American cheese
- 2/3 c. undiluted Carnation evaporated milk
- 1/3 c. water
- 1 1/3 c. (10 oz. pkg.) thawed frozen small onions
- 3/4 c. (4 1/2 oz. jar) sliced mushrooms and liquid
- 1/4 c. flour
- 1/8 tsp. pepper
- Coat chicken pieces with 1/4 cup flour.
- Melt butter in 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish.
- Bake, uncovered, in hot oven (425u0b0) for 30 minutes.
- Turn chicken; bake 15 to 20 minutes longer, or until tender.
- Drain off fat.
- Reduce temperature to slow (325u0b0). Combine cheese, soup, milk, water and pepper.
- Stir in frozen onions and mushrooms and liquid; pour over chicken.
- Sprinkle with paprika.
- Cover with foil; continue baking 15 to 20 minutes.
