Spaghetti Sauce
- 5 or 6 small onions, chopped
- 1 green pepper, chopped
- 1 Tbsp. Crisco
- 3 small cans tomato paste
- 1 qt. tomato puree
- 1 small can tomato sauce
- 2 lb. country ribs (optional)
- salt
- pepper
- dash of baking soda
- sweet basil
- bay leaf
- oregano
- Cut up onions and brown lightly in Crisco or oil.
- Add chopped pepper and tomato paste; simmer about 5 minutes, stirring very often to keep from burning.
- Add 2 cans water for each can of paste.
- Add puree and sauce.
- Bring to a boil and add a pinch of soda and rest of spices to taste.
- If ribs are not used, I add some lightly fried ground beef for meat sauce.
- Add meat balls (do not fry first) and cook at least 3 hours over low heat.
