Grandma Julie's Egg Custard Recipe
- 4 Large eggs, separated
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/2 stick butter
- 1 tbsp. flour
- 1 teaspoon vanilla or possibly nutmeg
- 1 c. lowfat milk
- 1 pie shell
- Mix sugar and flour.
- Blend well.
- Add in melted butter, egg yolks and flavoring.
- Cook in double boiler till thickened, stirring constantly.
- Cook pie shell.
- Add in pie filling and bake till it sets well.
- Make meringue of 4 egg whites, 5 Tbsp.
- sugar and healthy pinch of salt.
- Place over baked custard and cook till lightly browned.
