Nutella-filled steamed buns recipe
- 300 g (10.6oz) strong white flour
- 1.5 tsp active dried yeast
- 1 tbsp caster sugar
- 1 tbsp dried milk powder
- 0.5 tsp baking powder
- 5 g (0.2oz) salt
- 1 tbsp neutral-tasting oil
- 170 ml (6fl oz) warm water
- 1 Jar of chocolate spread for filling
- Cut out at least 16 squares of baking paper, each 2" by 2".
- Measure all the ingredients into a large bowl and mix well until you form a firm dough and there is no more flour at the bottom of the bowl.
- Tip the dough onto your work surface (don't flour the surface as this will change the dough-to-water ratio) and knead for 8-10 minutes until the dough feels springy and elastic.
- Return the dough to the bowl, cover the bowl with clingfilm and leave to rise for 1-1.5 hours in a warm place, until the dough has roughly doubled.
- Using measuring scales, divide the dough into 30g balls and cover lightly with clingfilm to stop them drying out.
- One by one, roll out each ball into a circle (3 inches across) using a rolling pin.
- Place a teaspoon of Nutella into the centre of the circle, then pinch the edges of the circle around the Nutella to form a pouch-shaped bun.
- Place the bun on a baking paper square and cover again with clingfilm while you shape the rest.
- Steam buns in a steamer (or bamboo steamer set over a wok filled with hot water) for 10 minutes.
- You may need to steam the buns in batches.
