Greek Sweet Bread
- 1 pkg. active dry yeast
- 2 Tbsp. water, very warm
- 2/3 c. milk, scalded
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 2 3/4 to 3 1/4 c. sifted flour
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 1/4 tsp. each: ground cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves
- 1/4 c. butter, melted
- sesame seed
- blanched almond slices
- Dissolve
- yeast
- in
- warm
- water.
- Scald
- milk; cool to lukewarm.
- Combine yeast, milk and 1 teaspoon sugar in a large bowl.
- Sift
- in
- 1/2 cup flour.
- Stir until flour is dampened. Cover bowltith
- a
- clean cloth and set in a warm place for 1 hour.
- Addtemaining
- flour, 1/2 cup sugar, 2 of the eggs and spices to melted butter.
- Stir into dough.tnead until smooth and elastic.
- Place
- in
- a
- greased
- bowl, cover and let rise until doubled, about 1 1/2 hours.
