Molasses Brown Bread

  1. Preheat oven to 325F (160C).
  2. Grease a 9x5x3 inch pan.
  3. Combine flour, wheat germ, brown sugar, salt and raisins in a mixing bowl.
  4. Mix well.
  5. In a second mixing bowl, mix baking soda, buttermilk and molasses, using a wooden spoon.
  6. This misture will start to bubble.
  7. Immediately mix it into the dry ingredients.
  8. Spoon the batter into the greased pan.
  9. Bake at once.
  10. The bread is done when a toothpick comes out clean, about 1 hour.
  11. Turn out of the pan and cool on a wire rack.
