Applesauce to Apple Butter Via the Crockpot
- 4 quarts Applesauce
- 1 cup Turbinado Sugar (sugar In The Raw)
- 1 cup Light Brown Sugar, Firmly Packed
- 1 Tablespoon Ground Cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon Allspice
- 1 Tablespoon Pure Vanilla Extract

- Place applesauce in crockpot (6-quart size).
- Add both sugars and spices.
- Stir in vanilla.

- Turn crockpot on high for 1 hour.
- After 1 hour, turn the heat down to low and leave the lid slightly ajar, letting the moisture escape as the applesauce cooks.

- Stirring occasionally, continue to cook on low for an additional 7 to 8 hours.
- The applesauce will change color as it turns into apple butter.

- When apple butter is nicely browned and thick, place in jars or plastic containers.
- Can be used immediately.
- Notes: The amount of sugar needed depends on the sweetness of the applesauce.
- Adjust sugar according to your personal taste.
- The apple butter can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 months and in the freezer up to one year.
- It will last longer if it is canned using the water bath method.
- Use standard canning methods.
