Beer Bannock Bread Recipe
- 1/2 c. unsalted butter - (to 1 c.) melted, cooled
- 3 c. self-rising flour
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 tsp coarse salt
- 1 can beer - (12 ounce) Fruit preserves for serving
- Over a campfire, heat sufficient butter to cover the bottom of a large cast-iron skillet by 1/4 inch.
- Place flour, sugar, and salt in a medium bowl.
- Stir to combine.
- Add in beer, and stir till a soft, sticky dough forms.
- Scrape dough into warm pan.
- Dip fingers in cooled melted butter, and press bread proportionately into pan.
- Cover dough with a thin layer of melted butter.
- Cook 10 min.
- Flip, and cook till brown, about 10 min more.
- Serve topped with a dollop of fruit preserves.
- This recipe yields 4 servings.
