Grandpa Lester's Famous Turnip Kraut Recipe
- Turnips
- Canning salt
- Heavy crock
- Note: Grandpa says the best time to fix kraut is as near to the full moon as you can get.
- Grind up 1 gallon of turnips per 1 rounded tbsp.
- of canning salt.
- Put down in 3 gallon crock.
- Mix thoroughly.
- Add in another gallon of grnd turnips and salt and push down till packed tight.
- Keep adding till jar is 2/3 full.
- Keep at room temperature; covered.
- Takes 10 days of sitting.
- Uncover; then put in freezer bags or possibly butter dishes and put in freezer till ready to use.
- Cook the same as any frzn vegetable.
- Can add in wieners or possibly ham to flavor.
