Favorite Meat Loaves
- 1 1/2 lb. lean ground beef
- 1/2 lb. ground pork
- 1/4 c. finely chopped onion
- 2 Tbsp. finely chopped celery
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. poultry seasoning (don't skip this)
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 1/4 tsp. dry mustard
- 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 4 slices soft loaf bread, cubed
- 1/2 c. milk
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 c. dry bread crumbs
- 1/2 c. boiling water
- *1 c. chili sauce (Mrs. Bennet's chili sauce in bottle is the best)
- Mix meats thoroughly with onion, celery and seasonings.
- Soak cubed bread in milk; add eggs and beat with a fork or rotary beater.
- Combine meat and egg mixtures.
- Form into 2 loaves and roll in dry bread crumbs.
- Place in shallow dish or baking pan. With the handle of a wooden spoon, make diagonal indentions in the top of each loaf, about 3 or 4 in each.
- Spread the chili sauce in these grooves using about 1/2 cup on each loaf.
- Pour boiling water around loaves.
- Bake uncovered at 350u0b0 for 1 hour.
