Mom's Favorite Apple Cobbler

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Melt butter in 13x9x2 baking dish or sheet cake pan.
  3. In a saucepan heat sugar and apple juice until sugar melts.
  4. Cut shortening into flour until particles are like fine crumbs.
  5. Add milk and stir with a fork only until dough leaves sides of the bowl.
  6. Turn out onto lightly floured board or pastry cloth, knead until smooth.
  7. Roll dough out into a large rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  8. Sprinkle cinnamon over apples; then sprinkle apple evenly over the dough.
  9. Roll up like a jelly roll.
  10. Dampen the edge of the dough with a little water and seal.
  11. Slice dough into about 16 slices, 1/2 inch thick.
  12. Place in pan with melted butter.
  13. Pour sugar syrup carefully around rolls.

  16. Bake for 55 - 60 minutes.
