Upside-Down Apple Gingerbread

  1. Pour butter into a 9-inch square baking pan.
  2. Arrange apples over butter; sprinkle with brown sugar and set aside.
  3. For gingerbread, combine butter, molasses, sugars and egg in a mixing bowl; mix well.
  4. Combine dry ingredients; add to sugar mixture alternately with hot tea.
  5. Mix well; pour over apples.
  6. Bake at 350F (180C) F for 45 to 50 minutes or until the cake tests done.
  7. Cool for 3 to 5 minutes.
