Grandma Miller's Honey Cookies
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup shortening
- 2 beaten eggs
- 1-1/2 cup honey
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tbsp. ground ginger
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 4 cups all purpose flour
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- Cream together the brown sugar and shortening.
- Add the beaten eggs.
- Mix in the honey.
- Sift together: salt, baking powder, ginger, and both kinds of flour.
- Set flour mixture aside.
- Mix together the buttermilk and soda.
- Alternately add the buttermilk and the flour mixtures to the creamed mixture.
- Roll out the cookies on a floured cutting board and cut with your favorite cookie cutters or the top of a drinking glass dipped in flour.
- Bake at 350F until done (10-15 minutes).
