Fruitcake with Citrus Whipped Topping

  1. Prepare and bake cake mix in three half-sheet pans (or one half-sheet pan for trial recipe) as directed on package; cool completely.
  2. Cut each cake layer horizontally into three even layers.
  3. Add drink mix to whipped topping; stir gently until well blended.
  4. Place one cake layer on bottom of each of three 4-inch half-hotel pans (or one 4-inch half-hotel pan for the trial recipe).
  5. Top each with layers of one fourth of the whipped topping mixture, one half of the fruit cocktail and one third of the remaining whipped topping mixture.
  6. Cover each with a second cake layer and half of the remaining whipped topping mixture; top with the remaining fruit cocktail and the remaining whipped topping mixture.
  7. Cover with the remaining cake layers.
  8. Refrigerate 3 hours or until well chilled.
  9. Store in refrigerator.
