Grandmother'S Jam Cake

  1. Cream butter and sugar; add eggs and cream well.
  2. Blend in jam.
  3. Sift together the flour, salt and spices.
  4. Add the soda to the buttermilk.
  5. Add the sifted dry ingredients to the creamed mixture alternately with the buttermilk, ending with the dry mixture.
  6. Fold in 1 cup pecans and the raisins.
  7. Turn the batter into 4 greased and floured 8-inch pans and bake at 350u0b0 for 35 to 40 minutes.
  8. Cool layers on racks and use frosting only on top of cake layers leaving sides plain.
  9. Sprinkle with remaining pecans.
