Swedish Meat Balls
- 1 medium size onion, chopped
- 1 Tbsp. butter or margarine
- 3 slices bread, crust removed and cubed
- 1/4 c. milk
- 1 lb. chopped chuck or round steak
- 1/2 lb. veal
- 1/2 lb. chopped lean pork
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 1/4 tsp. allspice
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 2 eggs, slightly beaten
- 1/3 c. flour
- 1/3 c. butter
- 1 c. water or bouillon
- In a saucepan, cook the onion in the butter until straw colored.
- Put the bread cubes in a large bowl.
- Pour in the milk and the onion. Set aside until milk has been absorbed.
- Add the chopped round steak, chopped veal, chopped pork, salt, pepper, allspice, nutmeg and eggs.
- With hands, mix all the ingredients together thoroughly and shape into balls (1-inch).
- Roll balls in flour.
