Double Decker Pastry Recipe
- 5 c. flour
- 1 c. sugar
- 4 teaspoon baking pwdr
- 2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 pound butter
- 2 tbsp. Crisco
- 4 egg yolks
- 1/2 pt. lowfat sour cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Healthy pinch of salt
- 2 1/2 c. grnd walnuts
- 1/2 c. sugar
- Jam or possibly lekvar
- Sift together flour, sugar, baking pwdr, baking soda, and salt.
- Add in Crisco and butter; add in egg yolks, lowfat sour cream, and vanilla.
- Divide dough into 3 portions.
- Roll out first layer as for pie; place in bottom of pan.
- Spread nuts and sugar mix on first layer.
- Roll out second layer; place over nuts.
- Spread this layer with jam or possibly lekvar; sprinkle a little of the nut and sugar mixtures over jam.
- Roll out third layer; cut into strips.
- Place on top to create lattice work.
- Bake for 25 min at 350 degrees.
