My Cabbage Rolls
- 1 lb hamburger
- 1 Italian sausage, link without the skin this is for taste (optional)
- 1 cup rice (cooked)
- 12 lb orzo pasta (cooked)
- 2 carrots, skinned and chopped small
- 1 head cabbage
- 1 onion, chopped fine
- 14 cup green pepper
- 1 egg
- garlic
- salt
- pepper
- italian seasoning
- I have not mastered separating cabbage leaves, so I will not instruct how to do so.
- But remove 8 cabbage leaves and boil them or boil them and then remove them.
- Cook the carrots, green pepper and onion until carrots are slightly soft.
- In separate bowl, mix together the hamburger and the sausage, the cooked veggies, egg, rice, and pasta.
- Mix together like a meatloaf.
- Add all seasonings (did not add measurements to seasonings because it is all to taste).
- Once the mixture is mixed add them to the cabbage leaves.
- Roll the cabbage leaves around the filling and lay the rolls down with the open side down.
- I did 2 layers on top of the other in a casserole dish.
- Add 1/4 cup of water to dish and cover tightly.
- Put in oven at 350F for about 45 minutes to an hour.
- Check to make sure mixture is cooked.
- Remove rolls from pan and either serve plain like this or serve with some sauce on top of it~*~HINT~*~ After I was all done making the rolls I had a considerable amount of stuff left so I sliced up the rest of the cabbage finely and laid it at the bottom of a casserole dish.
- I added a touch of water to the cabbage, maybe 2 tablespoons.
- I then spread out the hamburger mixture on top and I covered it and baked it on 350F for about an hour while we ate the rolls.
- I then let it cool slightly and froze it.
- When I was ready to eat it, I removed it from the freezer, thawed it a little and cooked it in the microwave until warm/hot.
- Then I added sauce to the top and served it for supper.
