Wilted Lettuce Salad

  1. In large skillet over medium heat fry bacon until crisp. Remove bacon; drain on paper towels.
  2. Reserve 3 tablespoons bacon drippings in skillet.
  3. Add onions; saute until crisp-tender.
  4. Stir in sugar, flour and salt; blend well.
  5. Cook until mixture is smooth and bubbly; stirring constantly.
  6. Gradually add water and vinegar; bring to a boil.
  7. Boil and stir 1 minute.
  8. Remove from heat.
  9. Add lettuce; toss just until leaves are coated and slightly wilted. Spoon into serving dish.
  10. Sprinkle with cooked bacon and chopped egg.
  11. Serve immediately.
  12. Yields 8 servings.
