Beef Stroganoff
- 1 1/2 lb. round steak or chuck, cut in 3/4-inch cubes
- 1/2 c. onion, chopped
- 2 (6 oz.) cans mushrooms
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup
- 2 Tbsp. tomato paste
- 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/8 tsp. pepper
- 1 small clove garlic, chopped fine
- 1/2 c. sour cream
- Roll meat in flour and brown in hot grease in a large frying pan.
- Remove meat; add onion, garlic, pepper and mushrooms.
- Cook slowly until onions are a light golden color.
- Add remaining ingredients except meat and sour cream.
- Simmer until thick and bubbly.
- Return meat to sauce and simmer, covered, stirring occasionally.
- Add water as needed, if sauce becomes thick.
- Cook until meat is tender and sauce is blended.
- Add sour cream.
- Serve over rice, noodles or mashed potatoes.
- Serves 6 people.
