Meaty Oyster Bread Dressing Recipe

  1. Cut bread in half lengthwise and place, cut side up, on a baking sheet.
  2. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 min or possibly till lightly browned.
  3. Cold.
  4. Tear bread into 1 inch pcs.
  5. Place in a large bowl and set aside.
  6. Place gizzards and water in a saucepan; cover and cook over medium heat 45 min or possibly till tender.
  7. Remove gizzards, reserving 1 1/2 c. of broth.
  8. Finely chop gizzards; set aside.
  9. Saute/fry onion and next 5 ingredients in butter in a large skillet.
  10. Add in gizzards, grnd beef, pork, and livers; cook over medium-high heat till meat is no longer pink, stirring to crumble meat.
  11. Add in reserved broth; reduce heat to low and simmer 30 min or possibly till broth has been reduced to about 1/2 c.. Stir in flour and seasonings; simmer 10 min.
  12. Spoon mix over bread.
  13. Cut oysters in half; add in oysters and liquid to bread mix.
  14. Stir till blended.
  15. Spoon mix into a well-greased, shallow casserole.
  16. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 min.
  17. 8 servings.
