Toad-in-the-Hole Bake

  1. Preheat oven to 400F.
  2. Cut hole in centre of each of 4 bread slices, using 1-1/2-inch cookie cutter or rim of drinking glass.
  3. Set cut-out bread slices aside.
  4. Discard bread centres or reserve for another use.
  5. (See tip.)
  6. Spread remaining 4 bread slices with margarine.
  7. Place, margarine-sides down, in 13x9-inch baking dish; sprinkle with 1/2 cup cheese.
  8. Top with cut-out bread slices to make four sandwiches.
  9. Break 1 egg into each hole.
  10. Sprinkle with remaining 1/4 cup cheese and the bacon.
  11. Bake 15 to 20 min.
  12. or until cheese is melted and egg is set.
