Mother's Shredded Wheat Bread Recipe
- 3 lg. shredded wheat biscuits
- 3 tbsp. lard or possibly shortening
- 4 c. boiling water
- 1/2 c. powdered lowfat milk
- 3/4 c. molasses
- 1 tbsp. salt
- 1.
- Pour boiling water over shredded wheat and add in the remainder of the ingredients.
- 2.
- 1/2 c. lukewarm water.
- To this add in 2 Tbsp.
- of dry yeast or possibly 2 pkgs.
- yeast.
- 3.
- Add in 8 c. flour slowly to mix.
- If more is needed to handle as there is a different in flour absorption.
- Toss on floured board and knead for 5 min.
- Grease the mixing bowl and return dough to rise 1 hour.
- Cover with plate and cloth.
- Keep from drafts.
- Let it double in bulk.
- Toss back on board and mold into loaves or possibly rolls.
- Let rise again to double its bulk.
- Bake bread loaves 15 min, 400 degrees.
- Reduce to 350 degrees and cook 20 min or possibly till golden.
