Scalloped Oysters I

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C).
  2. Butter a shallow baking dish.
  3. Combine the bread crumbs and cracker crumbs, stir in the melted butter.
  4. Place a thin layer of the crumb mixture in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  5. Layer half the oysters over the crumbs and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Pour 2 tablespoons oyster liquid and 1 tablespoon milk over the top.
  7. Repeat, layering remaining oysters in baking dish.
  8. Season as before with salt and black pepper, if desired.
  9. Pour remaining 2 tablespoons oyster liquid and 1 tablespoon milk over oysters; then cover the top layer of oysters with the remaining crumb mixture.
  10. Bake at 450 degrees F (230 degrees C) for 30 minutes.
