Baked Sausage and Mushroom Penne Pasta
- 5 cloves Garlic, Minced
- 1/2 cups Chopped Mushrooms
- 2 whole Mild Italian Sausage Links, Casings Removed
- 1/4 teaspoons Red Pepper Flakes
- 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
- 1 can Crushed Tomatoes (28 Ounces)
- 1/2 teaspoons Salt
- 2 cups Water
- 8 ounces, weight Penne Pasta
- 1/4 cups Heavy Cream
- 1/4 cups Chopped Fresh Basil
- 1/2 cups Grated Parmesan Or Romano Cheese
- 1 cup Grated Italian Cheese Blend Or Mozzarella Cheese
- Salt And Pepper, to taste
- Preaheat oven to 400 degrees.
- In a large oven safe skillet, saute garlic, mushrooms, Italian sausage and red pepper flakes in olive oil over medium heat, stirring until sausage is broken up and loses its pink color.
- Add the crushed tomatoes and salt and simmer for about 10 minutes.
- Add water and pasta.
- Cover and simmer for about 15 minutes until pasta is al dente, stirring occasionally.
- Stir in cream, basil and parmesan cheese.
- Adjust salt and pepper to taste.
- Top with the Italian cheese blend and place the skillet in the oven.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes until cheese is melted and starts to turn golden.
