Spicy Deep Fried Calamari
- 1 lb. calamari, cleaned, washed, drained, and cut into 1 inch rings
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 3 tbsp. water
- 1 cup plain bread crumbs
- 1 tbsp. cayenne pepper
- 1/2 cup cherry pepper rings, drained
- Oil for deep frying (or use a deep fryer)
- 1 lemon, cut into wedges
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Add the water to the beaten egg in a medium bowl.
- Add the cayenne pepper with the plain bread crumbs in a medium bowl.
- Dip the calamari rings a few at a time into the egg mixture then dredge into the bread crumb mixture.
- Deep fry until golden brown in small batches for about 3-4 minutes.
- Drain on paper.
- Add salt and pepper to taste.
- Deep fry the cherry pepper rings for about 3 minutes and drain.
- Toss the now fried pepper rings in with the calamari.
- Serve with the lemon wedges.
