Swiss Steak

  1. Cut meat into serving sizes (about 6).
  2. Combine flour, salt, pepper and chili powder.
  3. Pound 2 tablespoons of mixture into meat. Heat shortening in a skillet; brown meat on both sides.
  4. Drain excess fat from skillet.
  5. Add undrained tomatoes, onion, celery, carrot, pepper and Worcestershire sauce.
  6. Cover and simmer for 1 hour or until tender.
  7. Remove meat; place on a platter.
  8. Skim excess fat off sauce.
  9. Combine 1/4 cup of water with remaining flour mixture and stir into sauce.
  10. Serve with rice or noodles.
