Mom's Cranberries

  1. Combine sugar, water, cloves, allspice and cinnamon sticks in a 4-quart saucepan.
  2. Bring to boil.
  3. Cook, stirring, until syrup is clear, about 3 minutes.
  4. Add cranberries and cook just until they begin to pop, about 5 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat, add orange zest and cool.
  6. Make at least 24 hours before serving.
