Holiday Nut Bread Recipe

  1. Cream shortening, sugars, Large eggs and buttermilk.
  2. Sift together dry ingredients and stir into creamed mix.
  3. Stir in nuts.
  4. Grease and flour a 9 x 5 x 3 inch pan.
  5. Bake at 350 degrees for 60-65 min.
  6. Variations:
  7. Cherry Nut Bread: Reduce buttermilk to 1 c.. Add in 1/4 c. cherry juice, 1/2 c. minced cherries.
  8. Bake 70 min.
  9. Date Nut Bread: Eliminate buttermilk.
  10. Add in 2 c. minced dates in 1 1/2 c. boiling water.
  11. Pumpkin Nut Bread: Substitute 1 c. canned pumpkin and 2/3 c. whole lowfat milk for buttermilk.
  12. Add in 1 tsp.
  13. cinnamon.
  14. Cranberry Cheese Bread: Substitute 1 c. whole lowfat milk for buttermilk.
  15. Add in 1 c. fresh cranberries, 2 Tbsp.
  16. grated orange peel, 2 Tbsp.
  17. orange juice and 1 c. shredded Cheddar cheese.
