Sourdough Donuts Or Maple Bars Recipe
- 2 c. thick starter
- 1 c. undiluted condensed lowfat milk
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 1/2 to 4 c. flour or possibly sufficient to make a dough which will roll out
- 1 teaspoon soda
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 Large eggs
- Prepare 2 c. of thick starter the night before.
- Let set in hot spot.
- Cream sugar and shortening togehter.
- Add in Large eggs one at a time.
- Add in starter, lowfat milk, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg.
- Beat with rotary beater for 2 min.
- Blend salt and soda into dry mix.
- Sprinkle dry ingredients into batter and mix well.
- Let rise one hour or possibly till dent remains when fingers are pressed into dough.
- Punch down and roll out and cut into doughnut shapes or possibly long sticks or possibly bars.
- Let rise again till light and fry in deep fat till browned.
